Casablanca celebrates France and the French

On this 14 juillet, this is for my friends in France today to copy and paste:

It's the scene in Casablanca where the people in the restaurant drown out the Germans with La Marseillaise. Today, it's hard to drown out Germans crowing about the World Cup. With the number of yellow and black flags flying from car windows, I didn't realize there were so many Germans in Toronto.

I had the American blogger David Lebovitz's great book My French Kitchen out from the library recently and devoured it. He talks a lot about the French, how arguing and complaining is simply conversation for them - and don't I know it.

Joyeux 14 juillet, tout le monde.
